Our Story
How things got started at Xylo.
About ten years ago, the company I was working for asked me to pilot a leadership and communication training program with roughly 150 store managers from the Midwest.
While I had been through plenty of leadership workshops over the years, this one stood out. The firm they hired used a form of social & behavioral psychology. DISC and others use similar approaches, but with different nomenclature, nuances, and applications.
Using social psychology, we focused not on the intent of our communications as leaders, but on what the recipients of those communications heard or read.
In other words, perception is reality.
The pilot was a success, but there was one problem: While the managers were inspired and determined to apply what they learned year-round—the most determined lasted less than two months before reverting to their old habits. It isn’t that these courses don’t have value. There’s a good reason companies worldwide spend $26b every year on professional services to improve soft skills (power skills).
